“Governor Houchul’s unlawful decision to indefinitely pause Congestion Pricing has severely damaged the MTA’s finances, as today’s report from Comptroller DiNapoli has made clear. Beyond the $16.5 billion dollar hole in the capital plan, the cascading impacts on the day-to-day operations of the agency are incredibly alarming. That will hit riders where it hurts most: reliability, frequency, and affordability. It could also lead to unconscionable layoffs.
“When she chooses to actually address the issue, Governor Hochul says that we shouldn’t worry, but the experiences of riders tell us that her decision is already making transit less reliable and appealing. PCAC wants to thank the Comptroller and his team for continuing to shine a bright light on the bleak state of the MTA’s finances due to external decisions beyond their control. It’s now up to the Governor to reverse her unilateral decision and unpause the pause — before it’s too late.”
