The following statement can be attributed to Lisa Daglian, Executive Director, Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA (PCAC): “Governor Hochul continues to demonstrate her commitment to riders and public safety underground with the addition of new funding to fight crime in the subway system. Putting uniformed officers on every overnight train will help address issues immediately and ensure riders feel as safe as the stats show they are. The officers complement the other safety features the Governor promised in her State of the State Address, which the MTA will deliver: LED lights in every station; cameras on every train car; platform barriers at 100 additional stations by the end of this year; and the installation of ‘hop-proof’ fare gates. “Housing and ongoing support services are critical components to addressing the mental health and homelessness crisis facing New Yorkers, both above and underground. We look forward to continuing to hear more about the plans the Governor and Mayor have, including details about the Welcome Centers at end-of-line stations, in the coming days and weeks.” |
