The following statement can be attributed to Brian Fritsch, Associate Director, Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA (PCAC):
“Congestion relief is paying major dividends for New Yorkers, breaking the gridlock that has choked our city and region for far too long while improving air quality and investing in the safe and dependable transit system we deserve. Unless Secretary Duffy is proposing to make all toll roads free nationally, his stated rationale for ending congestion relief holds no water, especially given the recent knowledge that the first Trump Administration had the opportunity to raise concerns about a toll-free path through the cordon but declined to do so. In fact, they recommended VPPP as the most appropriate program.
“Congestion relief will continue unless a court orders it to stop, and the program is undefeated despite a torrent of flimsy legal challenges. We’re thankful to Governor Hochul for standing up to the Federal Government’s illegal attempts to infringe on New York’s sovereignty and continuing to put the MTA’s millions of riders first.”
