Trudy L. Mason

Trudy L. Mason, who has an extensive background in the transportation field, is the Manhattan representative on the NYC Transit Riders Council of the Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA–appointed by three successive Manhattan Borough Presidents. She was formerly the MTA’s Director of Public Affairs & Government/Community Relations, where she initiated the Adopt-A-Station program and helped establish the PCAC. The first woman in such a role at the MTA, she was a “founding mother” of the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) and Co-Chair of the Women in Transit Committee of the American Public Transit Association (APTA).

Prior to the MTA, she served in other public policy positions, including Deputy Assistant Administrator/Commissioner of the NYC Economic Development Administration, Director of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services and Assistant to the NYC Council President.

Ms. Mason has provided “pro bono” advocacy for numerous non-profit causes & organizations–especially those concerned with mental health & disability issues. She was a Commissioner on the NYC Commission on the Status of Women and is currently a Vice Chair of the NY Democratic State Committee. Recognized for her dedication to public service, she was profiled in “Feminists Who Changed America” and cited by the NY State Assembly as a “Woman of Distinction”.

Ms. Mason is a “cum laude” graduate of Wheaton College (Norton, MA) and the recipient of its Distinguished Alumna award. She has also taught and lectured at Hunter College/Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute, NYU, the New School and Marymount Manhattan College/Center for Learning & Living.
