Lisa Daglian, Executive Director of the Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA (PCAC) and Andrew Albert, Chair of the New York City Transit Riders Council (NYCTRC) and MTA Board Member said:
Our hearts go out to those injured in today’s horrific attack at the 36th Street D/N/R station. This senseless act of violence is yet another reminder of the need to keep riders and transit workers safe underground and around our transit system. We continue to support the MTA, NYPD, city, and state in their ongoing commitment to improve safety in the system. The MTA’s investment in cameras has already proven to be a tremendous asset in catching criminals and we hope they will shed light on what happened today and lead to the capture of the person or people who committed this act. We thank the good Samaritans, transit workers, and first responders who came to the aid of victims during today’s events. We hope that this is a one-off incident and does not deter riders from returning to transit as a concerted effort continues to improve safety underground.
