Statement of PCAC Executive Director William Henderson on the 7 Line Extension
MTA Board Finance Committee
October 22, 2007
I want to express the New York City Transit Rider’s Council’s disappointment that the civil works contract for the 7 line extension recommended for approval by the Board’s Capital Construction Committee and considered here today includes no station or station shell construction at 10th Avenue and 41st Street. As you may know, the NYCTRC has consistently supported the construction of a fully operational station at this location as part of the 7 line extension project. It is clear to us that this station is necessary to adequately serve the growing west side of Manhattan. It is further clear to us that the cost of providing this needed station facility will be much greater if it is added after this project is accomplished. We urge the MTA and the City to reach an agreement that efficiently provides this vital facility for those who will live and work in the west Midtown area.
