The Long Island Rail Road Commuter Council is concerned with the safety and security of New York Penn Station. In light of two recent derailments and a Taser incident that led to station-wide panic, the LIRRCC is calling on Amtrak to take the steps necessary to ensure an effective and coordinated police force.
“The safety and security situation in Penn Station has to change, and Amtrak, as the owner and operator of the station, must take the lead to ensure that Penn Station is provided with appropriate levels of law enforcement and security personnel, as well as safety enhancements, to safeguard the users of Penn Station,” said Chair Mark Epstein.
