PCAC Statement – January 23, 2020 – Byford Resignation

PCAC – Responds to the Resignation of NYC Transit President Andy Byford
January 23, 2020

This is a terrible day for riders! We’re shaken and deeply saddened – but not terribly surprised – by Andy Byford’s resignation. Nobody has made more progress on behalf of riders and assembled such a strong team in such a short time than Andy Byford. On-time performance improvements, a commitment to resignalling and increasing train speeds, as fresh look at archaic bus routes and focus on accessibility are a proud legacy of his too short time at New York City Transit. His efforts on behalf of workers should be hailed – and are apparent every day. Likewise, his commitment to riders has been extraordinary and we reluctantly wish him all the best. The MTA has huge shoes to fill and must commit to continuing the tremendous strides that have been made under Andy Byford’s tutelage. We hope to see a continuation of his successes with his successor, who we hope will come from the strong team he’s built.
