After Hurricane Ida caused historic flooding and unforeseen damage to our transit system, the importance of preparing for upcoming storms has never been more important. We’re optimistic that regular service will continue overnight and for the morning rush but look forward to seeing detailed plans from MTA leadership – not just about preparing for tonight’s rain and wind, but also about repairing damage from past storms and meeting future needs to help transit withstand the impacts of climate change.
With once-in-a-century storms falling on the region multiple times a month, the MTA must continue to invest in major resiliency upgrades to the subway, bus, and rail infrastructure or risk falling victim to climate change and severe weather. That’s something riders – and the region – can’t afford.
