PCAC Strongly Condemns Federal Withdrawal of Congestion Pricing Approval

The following statement can be attributed to Lisa Daglian, Executive Director, Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA (PCAC): 
 
“We condemn in the strongest terms the USDOT’s decision to withdraw their approval of congestion pricing.
 
“Six weeks in, there’s no question that congestion pricing is working. Drivers from around the region are seeing less traffic; bus riders are seeing substantially faster trips; and riders are benefitting from much-needed investment in our essential transit infrastructure. Recent polling found that more than 60% of CBD drivers approve of the program.​
 
“Congestion pricing went through a years-long, extremely thorough environmental review process and FHWA already found that no significant impacts would occur. Multiple judges have ruled in favor of the program’s legality.
 
“We can’t afford to reverse the transformative progress that New Yorkers are experiencing. We urge the USDOT to reinstate their approval of congestion pricing immediately. Otherwise, we’ll see you (back) in court.”
