The following statement can be attributed to Lisa Daglian, Executive Director, Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA (PCAC):
“A safe, reliable transit system is essential to our region’s riders and economy. The framework laid out by Governor Hochul on a deal struck with Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Heastie clearly shows they understand the importance of the MTA to New York. We thank them for their steadfast support. Fully funding the 2025-29 Capital Plan was vital to ensuring the $1.5 trillion asset that millions rely on daily is kept in a state of good repair and brought into the 21st century – especially in light of ongoing threats from the federal government.
“The MTA has shown that it can find savings and tighten its belt to work better, faster and on budget. Those efforts will need to be redoubled in the face of ongoing national uncertainty. Nothing gets cheaper the longer you wait, particularly given supply chain vagaries we may be facing.
“Funding critical safety programs and helping New Yorkers in need with support services will help restore faith in the system and get more riders back underground. We look forward to hearing more details over the coming days as the budget is voted on and released in full.”
