Metro-North Council to Hear from Garrison Commuters
September 18, 2011
On Wednesday Sept. 21 the Metro-North Railroad Commuter Council (MNRCC) will hold a public meeting to hear riders’ comments, complaints, and compliments concerning Metro-North service. All persons with an interest in the railroad’s operations are encouraged to attend. The event will be the second in a series of “listening tour” meetings covering the full-time stations within Putnam County. This informal session will be hosted by Neal Zuckerman, the Putnam County representative to the Council, who will be accompanied by MNRCCs Executive Director, Bill Henderson. The meeting will be held at the Garrison Art Center at 23 Garrison’s Landing, from 6:30-8 p.m.
A primary mission of the MNRCC is to study the operations of Metro-North Railroad and to make recommendations to the railroad to improve its performance. Riders’ input at this meeting and others like it will assist the MNRCC to develop these recommendations. Comments made at previous public forums hosted by the MNRCC have resulted in Metro-North making changes to schedules, rules, and procedures to the benefit of riders.
The MNRCC is the legislatively mandated representative of the riders of the Metro-North Railroad. Eleven volunteer members are regular Metro-North riders and appointed by the governor upon the recommendation of local officials in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester Counties and the Borough of the Bronx. The MNRCC is an affiliate of the Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA (PCAC), which addresses MTA-wide issues and serves as a coordinating body for the MNRCC and two other riders’ councils.
