“On behalf of MTA riders, we extend our gratitude to Leader Stewart-Cousins for including the ‘FARES Act’ in part VV of the New York Senate’s One-House Budget Resolution and Senator Comrie for championing this initiative.
“A ‘Fare Budget’ is a fair budget. All New Yorkers, regardless of income, ability, or age, should be able to access the commuter rail service that serves their community. Creating a weekly CityTicket with free transfers to subways and buses, expanding half fares for senior, disabled, and Medicare-eligible riders to the AM peak, and expanding Fair Fares to the commuter rails within New York City are critical steps toward a more affordable, equitable, and accessible transit system.
“We look forward to continuing to work with our partners in government and advocacy to ensure that the FARES Act is included in the enacted FY25 New York State budget.”
