The following statement can be attributed to Lisa Daglian, Executive Director, Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA (PCAC):
“Actions taken at today’s MTA Committee Meetings are a nice holiday gift for riders across the region.
Bus riders will benefit from increased service and improved running times in routes around the boroughs. This is yet another positive outcome of congestion pricing.
The new subway cars that will soon be rolling in will help modernize our aging fleet, and though we’ll miss the conversational seating, we will welcome the technology and mechanical improvements. They’ll come CBTC equipped, doubling down on the need for signal upgrades along the B division – a highlight of the next capital program. This vast improvement for riders pinpoints the importance of funding the plan as a priority for Albany when they reconvene.
The Board will vote on Wednesday on new dual mode locomotives for the LIRR that will help ensure reliability and improve service, while reducing the railroad’s carbon footprint. Good for commuters and the environment!
New Yorkers deserve a 21st century transit system. These improvements to their ride are great steps in that direction.”
